This department is responsible for handling, in accordance with The Basic Law of the Macao Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, matters concerning international organizations and legal affairs. It deals with issues of bilateral and multilateral treaties affecting the Macao SAR and relevant legal affairs; assists Macao in obtaining instruments authorizing the Macao SAR Government to negotiate and conclude bilateral international agreements with foreign governments; and handles relevant issues concerning judicial assistance between the Macao SAR and foreign states, which requires the assistance and authorization of the C.P.G. It also coordinates handling of issues concerning Macao's participation in an appropriate capacity in international organizations and conferences, the establishment of offices in the Macao SAR by international organizations and institutions, inter-governmental conferences to be held in the Macao SAR, and other matters related to international organizations.
