Jia Qinglin Meets with Lao Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong

On May 28, 2012, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Jia Qinglin met with Lao Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong at the Great Hall of the People.

Jia said that the current Sino-Lao relations have shown good momentum of development. The top leaders of the two countries have kept annual meetings and deepened exchanges of experience on state governance. Economic and trade cooperation is fruitful and the two sides have maintained close coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs. The Lao party and government have always given firm support to China on issues concerning China's major concerns. After deadly attacks on Chinese cargo ships on Oct. 5, Laos fully cooperated with China in advancing law enforcement and security cooperation on the Mekong River between China, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand, which the Chinese side highly appreciates.

Jia said the Chinese side has always viewed and developed China-Laos ties from a strategic perspective. He hoped the two sides continue to strengthen strategic communication and deepen pragmatic cooperation in economy, trade, law enforcement and security, science, education, humanities and other fields so that the two peoples will remain good neighbors, good friends, good comrades and good partners forever. The CPPCC and the Lao Front for National Reconstruction have maintained close exchanges over the years and their friendly cooperation has continuously deepened. He hoped the two sides will further strengthen exchanges and contribute to promoting the Sino-Lao comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

Thongsing said he was glad to attend the first Beijing International Fair for Trade in Service and to visit China. Close high-level exchanges between the two countries are essential to bilateral ties. Chairman Jia Qinglin's visit to Laos in 2008 effectively pushed for the development of Laos-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, which the Lao government and people still remember. Thongsing introduced Laos' economic and social development and thanked for China's long-standing valuable support and help. He said the Lao side attaches great importance to relations with China and is willing to further strengthen pragmatic cooperation with China in various fields, enhance exchanges with the CPPCC, deepen exchange of experience in state governance and push the bilateral relations to a new level.
